The Colosio Mausoleum in Magdalena de Kino
Magdalena’s native son Luis Donaldo Colosio was a favorite to win the election for the presidency of Mexico when he was assassinated by a gunman in Tijuana in 1994. Not long after his death, his wife Diana Laura succumbed to cancer.
The Colosios are entombed in a beautiful mausoleum in the Magdalena city cemetery.
In addition to a sitting area in the lower level where the Colosios are entombed, the upper level features a brass statue to Luis Donaldo and Diana Laura, with quotes from the slain politician etched prominently on the surrounding walls of the room.
